An authoritative guide that provides everything you need to know to design and install plumbing systems in residential and commercial facilities.
Note this is an Electronic Download (PDF).
This comprehensive source gives you a solid grasp of all aspects of plumbing engineering and design — from the basics of water quality, treatment, supply, distribution, and pressure to the latest advances in earthquake protection, cross-connection control, and specifications for plumbing systems.

Included are 20 easy-to-understand, easy-to-apply chapters covering such topics as:

• Water pumps and piping insulation
• Protection of water supply systems
• Fire sprinkler and standpipe systems
• Sanitary drainage and vent systems
• Control of noise in plumbing systems
Broad in scope and accurate in detail, this expert guide is an essential working tool for engineers, architects, and plumbing professionals who want the best available answers to all their plumbing engineering questions.

Practical Plumbing Engineering incorporates various aspects of the field of plumbing engineering, including the planning, design and installation of plumbing systems. The methods employed are based on standard engineering practices and the application of principles of engineering design that follow standard code regulations. Each chapter of the book is written by an expert in the subject. The book is a working guide and reference for engineers, plumbing system designers, plumbing officials, architects, plant engineers, inspectors, journeymen, students, contractors, builders, and all those associated with the construction industry. Because this book presents technical information in an accessible form, nonspecialists will find the contents especially useful. Lucid explanations and simple charts often replace derivations and complicated technical formulas.

Both the U. S. Customary System of units and the International System of units are used throughout.

Cyril M. Harris has been a professor at Columbia University since 1952, teaching in the School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, where he served as chairman of the Division of Architectural Technology for 10 years. Dr. Harris has achieved international recognition for his work in noise control and auditorium design. He received the AIA Medal of the American Institute of Architects, the Gold Medal, as well as the W.C. Sabine Medal of the Acoustical Society of America, The Gold Medal of the Audio Engineering Society, and the Franklin Medal of the Franklin Institute. Dr. Harris is a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in physics from M.I.T.
